With the emergence of AI tools in these few years, it is very common to see AI content being generated everywhere.

The question is, can this AI content get ranked on the first page of Google results? If so, then it would be so much easier to use AI content for blogs.

I began the quest to search for AI content ranked on first page results and the following are my findings. If you want to skip all the findings and details, just scroll down to the results and findings section!

Setting the search criteria

To be fair, I have selected 8 different categories and topics for this research so that the results won’t be too biased toward a single niche. The eight niches are:

  • Business
  • Finance
  • Technology
  • Fashion
  • Beauty
  • Fitness
  • Leisure
  • Kitchen

Selecting the Right AI Detection Tool

Currently, there are tons of AI detection tools in the market so which one to use in this research is important.

I decided to test out several popular AI detection tools to determine which one delivers the highest accuracy.

I tested writer.com, zerogpt, copyleaks, gptzero and a few others and the results are pretty obvious only Copyleaks is able to differentiate my human and AI-generated blog posts with high accuracy. Some other tools mistook the blog post I wrote personally as AI-generated content!

I use AI to generate a 1,500 words blog post and Copyleaks is able to detect that this is AI-generated content.

This is one of the blog posts that is written by me and is hosted on this site. Only Copyleaks and one or two other tools are able to tell that this is human-written text.

As a result, I use Copyleaks to detect AI content in the following 8 niches!

First Niche: Business

Let’s take a look at the first niche: Business.

I came up with the keywords to type in Google “Business productivity ideas 2023”.

I then use Copyleaks to check all the first page Google results to check for any web pages that are using AI content.

The results for the Business niche are as follows:

Out of the 10 results on the first page of Google, there are 4 results containing AI-generated content!

I am pretty surprised that first-ranking web page content was created using AI-Generator!

For me, I can be certain that the content is created using AI if Copyleak returns a probability of higher than 70%.

This first niche shows that it is possible to be ranked on Google’s first page (even number 1 position) using AI-Generated content.

Read the following niche to find out what happens in an extremely competitive niche…

Second Niche: Finance

Let’s take a look at the second niche: Finance.

I came up with the keywords to type in Google “How to invest in stock market for beginners”.

I then use Copyleaks to check all the first page Google results to check for any web pages that are using AI content.

The results for the Finance niche are as follows:

Out of the 10 results on the first page of Google, there are only 2 results containing partial AI-generated content.

My take is that this keyword phase that I type in Google is extremely competitive. The top-ranking results are all written by real persons. Only 2 results contain partial AI-generated content. This could mean that in an extremely competitive niche, it is important to be a trustworthy source (as per Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines).

Third Niche: Technology

Let’s take a look at the third niche: Technology.

I came up with the keywords to type in Google “How to troubleshoot wifi connection”.

I then use Copyleaks to check all the first page Google results to check for any web pages that are using AI content.

The results are as follows:

Out of the 10 results on the first page of Google, there are no results containing AI-generated content!

It could be due to the topic being quite technical and it might be hard for AI to generate accurate troubleshooting steps as of today’s technology.

Fourth Niche: Fashion

Let’s take a look at the next niche: Fashion.

I came up with the keywords to type in Google “Style guide for men”.

I then use Copyleaks to check all the first page Google results to check for any web pages that are using AI content.

The results are as follows:

Out of the 10 results on the first page of Google, there is only 1 result containing AI-generated content!

I find that there are several first-page ranking results that contain more images than text in this niche. And I think it makes sense as this topic tends to be more visual as compared to other niches. At the moment, there is still no AI detection tool for images so I will not be assessing the images (if they are AI-generated or not) in the first-page Google results.

Fifth Niche: Beauty

Let’s take a look at the next niche: Beauty.

I came up with the keywords to type in Google “Skin care routine steps at home”.

I then use Copyleaks to check all the first page Google results to check for any web pages that are using AI content.

The results are as follows:

Out of the 10 results on the first page of Google, there is only 1 result containing partial AI-generated content!

For this niche, most results are very balanced in terms of visuals, texts, and video content. I think Google is very smart in considering the various type of content to serve in the first page for this niche and the previous niche (Fashion).

Sixth Niche: Fitness

Let’s take a look at the next niche: Fitness.

I came up with the keywords to type in Google “Home workout for women”.

I then use Copyleaks to check all the first page Google results to check for any web pages that are using AI content.

The results are as follows:

Out of the 10 results on the first page of Google, there there are no results containing AI-generated content!

Similar to the previous niche (beauty), the fitness niche results are mostly visuals and videos so the amount of text is quite limited compared to other niches.

Seventh Niche: Leisure

Let’s take a look at the next niche: Leisure.

I came up with the keywords to type in Google “Top TV shows on amazon prime”.

I then use Copyleaks to check all the first page Google results to check for any web pages that are using AI content.

The results are as follows:

Out of the 10 results on the first page of Google, there there are no results containing AI-generated content!

In this niche, I can’t find any AI-generated content on the first page of Google. I think perhaps it is difficult to get AI to generate content about popular TV shows at the moment.

Eighth Niche: Kitchen

Let’s take a look at the next niche: Kitchen.

I came up with the keywords to type in Google “How to choose oven for baking”.

I then use Copyleaks to check all the first page Google results to check for any web pages that are using AI content.

The results are as follows:

Out of the 10 results on the first page of Google, there there is only 1 result containing partial AI-generated content.

In this niche, there are a lot of recommendations for products on the first page Google. And surprisingly, the partial AI content is found in one of the top-ranking articles!

Results and Findings (Summary)

In summary, it is definitely possible to rank a piece of AI content on Google’s first page at the moment.

However, when it comes to a very competitive niche like finance, it seems to me that the trust of the website supersedes other factors. As long as you own a trustworthy site, you can be assured of a good ranking for the articles you put out.

Moving forward, you can expect to see more partial Ai content (generated by AI, then edited by human or written by human and edited by AI) articles getting ranked on Google.

Finally, as a rule of thumb, I highly recommend everyone to produce useful content to benefit web users. Only if we start from this intent, then you will eventually see results and conversions. Using AI to generate content is fine, but make sure you edit and add in your own experience and expertise so the piece of content will be truly useful for web users.

Hope you find this article and research useful!
